When God Makes You Late
For me Sunday mornings usually fluctuate between being busy and being downright chaotic. Not only are there many moving parts to a Sunday church gathering, but I want to talk to people and spend time connecting with God. This particular Sunday I wasn’t preaching so I had a bit more time to interact before having our START HERE newcomers luncheon. As the last song ended I saw one couple, Scott & Kristen, sitting near with a bunch of kids around them. It had been awhile since I talked to them so I went over and started to catch up with Scott. In the back of my mind I knew I didn’t have much time because I didn’t want to be late for the new people (what would they think of me!). Our conversation went on and right when I knew I needed to leave … Kristen interrupted.
She introduced me to her son’s friend, Mason. And then shocked me when she asked, “Would you pray with Mason because he wants to accept Jesus?” I stumbled in my mind, and then with my words! Finally I caught myself, “Of course!” I quickly prayed with and talked to Mason. He simply wanted what Pastor Roy was talking about so I led him in inviting Jesus into his life. I hung around for awhile and talked with the family as they rejoiced. Sure I was late for START HERE, but sometimes being late is exactly where God wants you to be.
