History

Gospel Alliance Church was born out of a burden to bring a fresh presence of Jesus to the Mon Valley. A pastor from West Newton, members from the Alliance church there, and others from the Fayette City Alliance Church banded together to take the faith-filled risk of starting a new church in Charleroi. We started meeting in Rego’s Restaurant in Charleroi in 1987 with 24 people.

This small group was committed to reaching people and making an impact in Charleroi. In 1990, we moved into our own building and experienced God’s faithfulness in paying off the mortgage and renovation costs. More people joined the GAC family, and by 1997, we had relocated to a new facility, experiencing God's faithfulness once more.

As the church grew, so did the vision. In 2008, our burden grew beyond Charleroi to the surrounding area as well. Once again, God’s faithfulness excelled as we purchased land along Rt. 51 and built a larger facility in 2012. People from Allegheny, Westmoreland, and Fayette counties began attending and experiencing the friendship and love of the GAC family.

As the church grew, so did the ministries. Outreaches to the community began (e.g., Bag Brigade, Anchored Heart, etc.). Wednesday night's youth and children’s program provided solid truth for kids in an ever-changing world. Adults received solid instruction from Bible studies and adult Sunday school. Our genuine love for each other and the community motivated us to be a family committed to worshipping together, growing in Jesus, serving, praying, and reaching out to a broken world.

As the church grew, changes happened, too. Multiple pastors shaped our family and gave us what God wanted each time. People came and moved on. Various staff and workers contributed throughout the years. As people and times have changed, so have our methods. Today, we look to bring the never-changing truth of Jesus into the lives of people in the entire region.

We see GAC as a large church family spread out over the Mid-Mon Valley region in clusters of people committed to growing and reaching out together. We come together as a large group on Sundays to experience God’s presence through worship and the preaching of God’s Word. Recognizing that true discipleship is a work of the Holy Spirit, we will challenge each other to allow Him access to all of us—body, soul, and spirit. We will pursue Jesus together in deep faith, persistent love, and rekindled hope. GAC will be a church organized around small groups (called Discipleship Families) so that leaders are developed and individuals are equipped to serve God in the way He intended.
